Harassment Policy
BUILDING HARASSMENT POLICY/LEWD CONDUCT POLICY

Harassment in school is unwanted attention from adults, students, or anyone else the victim may deal with in school or at school-related activities. Harassment may carry the message that if the victim does not comply with the harasser’s demands, there may be retaliation. Incidents of harassment may occur only once; sometimes they are repeated. Often the situation gets worse if it is not stopped.
Because this is such a serious matter, harassment in any form is prohibited at Mt. Adams Middle School/White Swan School. It can cause serious psychological damage to students plus negatively impact grades, attendance, performance and pride in one’s work.
The following behaviors are not allowed:

  • Staring or leering, with uncomfortable intensity

  • Repeating gossip

  • Making comments or telling jokes that make the victim feel uncomfortable

  • Pressuring other(s) to do unacceptable or illegal activities

  • Enacting unwanted physical contact of any nature

Harassment, intimidation, or bullying means any intentional electronic, written, verbal, or physical act, including but not limited to one shown to be motivated because of his or her perception of the victim’s race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or mental, physical, or sensory handicap or other distinguishing characteristics, when the intentional electronic, written, verbal, or physical act:

  • Physically harms a student or damages the student’s property; or

  • Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student’s education; or

  • Is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating or threatening educational environment; or

  • Has the effect of substantially disrupting the orderly operation of the school.

Victims of harassment should report the problem to an adult (teacher, counselor, or administrator) in the school as soon as possible. The adult then has a duty to undertake an investigation. Please see Mr. Castilleja for documentation forms. The privacy of the victim is to be protected as much as possible. Sexual and racial harassment is considered to be a form of discrimination and it is illegal in Washington State schools and in the work place under existing state and federal laws.

Mount Adams School District does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, ethnicity, color, religion, creed, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, homelessness, immigration or citizenship status, disability, neurodivergence, the use of a trained dog guide or service animal, age, and veteran or military status and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
