How We Prevent Bullying at Harrah Elementary School
Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and welcome at school. We don’t leave this to chance. We teach students how to treat one another, how to recognize bullying, and what to do when they see it.
Teaching kindness and respect every day
Our students learn the skills that help prevent bullying as part of their regular school day:
- Social-emotional learning (SEL): Every class begins the day with 30 minutes of SEL. Students practice managing their feelings, solving problems, and getting along with others.
- Clear expectations (PBIS): Through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, we teach, practice, and recognize respectful behavior in classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, and on the playground.
Teaching students what to do
We teach students to recognize bullying, to stand up safely for others, and to tell a trusted adult. Students learn that reporting bullying isn’t “tattling.” It’s how we keep everyone safe.
When bullying happens
We take every report seriously. Staff respond quickly, investigate, and work with students and families to stop the behavior and support everyone involved. Our harassment, intimidation, and bullying (HIB) compliance officer is Cesar Hernandez, Assistant Principal, chernandez@masd209.org.
How families can help
Talk with your child about kindness and what to do if they see or experience bullying. If you have a concern, please call the office at 509-848-5701. Students and families can also report concerns anytime, anonymously if they choose, through HearMeWA.
